Billiards Games
The billiards games are played using cue sticks and balls on a rectangular table covered with cloth. There are so many types of billiards games such as pocket billiards, cut throat, straight pool, eight ball, nine ball and English billiards. The pocket billiards games are played on a table that has pockets and this game often makes use of many balls. The carom billiards games are played on a table that does not have pockets and they use only two object balls and one cue ball.
The billiards games come under the classification of cue sports or pool games. The main game played in England from 1770 until 1920 is English billiards. It is only after 1920 that snooker became famous there. Snooker is a type of game which makes use of 22 balls. The Billiards is now the popular game of United States, France and many other countries of the world. If you play straight pool, you need 15 balls in a rack and the break has cue balls and two object balls that go to the rail. The three balls should go to the rail. If not two points are subtracted and it is the choice of the other player to decide if the breaker should try again or should accept the table for himself. The pocket as well as the ball must be named when calling each shot in this billiards games.
In the nine ball billiards games, you have to make use of only the lowest numbered nine balls. When you sink the ball on a legal shot, you win. If you give three fouls in a row, you will be the loser. There is eight ball game also. This is also called as American eight ball. The one who sinks the eight ball on a break is deemed to be the winner. The rules for this game vary differently in different areas. The size of cue ball also varies. In America the cue ball used is bigger while in Britain it is smaller and more light weight than other balls.
The cut throat billiards games are mostly played for fun in parties. In this game each player has five balls and it is played by three players at a time. The first one has first five balls, the next one next five and so on. The object of the game is to sink the other players’ ball. The one with left out ball is the winner.
